About Jennifer

Jennifer Hartwell, MD, FACS is the Associate Dean and Chief Wellness Officer for IU School of Medicine and IU Health Physicians Group. Additionally, Jennifer is an Assistant Professor of Surgery, the Associate Trauma Medical Director at Methodist Hospital and the Medical Director for Nutrition at the Adult Academic Health Center. Jennifer teaches residents and students, practices trauma and acute care surgery, and fosters wellness initiatives across the spectrum from the individual to the health system level. Her work includes efforts to support Medical Students, Residents/Fellows, Advanced Practice Providers and Faculty (academic and non-academic) in all realms of wellness—physical, intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual, financial—as well as provide decision making, leadership, and operational planning guidance. Her research interests include trauma and acute care surgery, nutrition, and physician well-being. She holds a BA from Miami University (Oxford, OH), and an MD from Wright State University.
