Effective Performance Management is an ongoing process that begins during the initial hiring process and continues throughout the year with goal setting, mid-year review, performance evaluation, recognition, and assessment of potential. The School of Medicine’s Competency-based Performance Management process allows employees to receive feedback not only on ‘what’ they have accomplished (i.e., performance goals), but also ‘how’ the work was performed. Assessments are done on the core competencies defined by the School and supervisors customize additional feedback based on competencies related to the job family of the position (administrative, IT, Health, etc.) Multi-source 360 degree feedback can also be incorporated in this process.
