Indiana University Health and School of Medicine are joining over 20 academically-affiliated healthcare organizations as an institutional member of the Healthcare Professional Well-Being Consortium (PWAC). This collective group is committed to assessing and sharing evidence-based, best practices that promote a culture of wellness, efficiency of practice, and well-being of healthcare professionals.

All attending physicians, clinical faculty, resident/fellow trainees, and advanced practice providers employed by IU Health and School of Medicine will be asked to participate in the #2022Wellbeing Survey starting November 29 until January 10, 2023. (A non-clinical version of the survey will be administered to basic science faculty and graduate students in Spring 2023).

By inviting feedback from over 7,000 healthcare providers across Indiana and the Academic Health Center, survey results will help generate robust benchmarks measuring professional fulfillment, burnout and drivers/mitigators of these outcomes.

Wellness champions in IU Health and School of Medicine have collectively vetted and customized this instrument so that reported benchmarks may be useful for leaders in academic departments, training programs, clinical specialties/subspecialities, and medical groups to address significant drivers and mitigators uniquely impacting their team.

Who is being asked to take the 2022 Wellbeing Survey?
All physicians, residents, fellows, and APPs are being asked to complete the survey, which begins administration on November 29th.

The survey administration begins on November 29th , 2022 and will close by January 10th, 2023.
How long does it take to complete the 2022 Wellbeing Survey?
We anticipate that the survey will take participants 10-15 minutes to complete.
Where do I find my personal link to take the 2022 Wellbeing Survey?
An email invitation from will be sent to all members of the clinical administration with a personal link to the online survey on November 29th, 2022. Periodic email reminders, containing the same personal email link, will be sent to those who haven’t responded until January 10th, 2023, when the survey closes. If you are having trouble locating the invitation or reminder emails, we suggest searching for #2022WellbeingSurvey in your inbox. The survey can be completed in one session or in multiple sessions using the same link. If you cannot find the personal link in your email, we suggest checking your junk folder.

Confidentiality and Reporting

Who is administering the 2022 Wellbeing Survey?
The 2022 Wellbeing Survey is being administered by a third-party organization, SullivanLuallin Group, an independent survey administrator.
Are my responses confidential?
Your personally identifiable data associated with this survey will not be available to any IU employee and will be accessible only to limited personnel appointed to manage the data and the IT personnel who maintain the data at the SullivanLuallin Group. Your anonymized information will become part of a database that will be used to generate aggregate results and survey reports. Identifiable data will not be released for any reason. Data released by SullivanLuallin Group to IUSM, IUHP, or IUH for any approved purpose will first be de-identified by removing any personal identifying information in addition to removing demographic information when combinations of any demographic information are unique to any group of fewer than five individuals. What categories of personal information are collected and what types of questions are asked?
Our online survey identifies you by your e-mail address, which will be used by SullivanLuallin Group to confidentially link your responses across time. This survey collects information regarding the following: age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, department/specialty, training status, academic rank, practice environment, experience at work, work related stress and burnout, and workload. You may skip any question you prefer not to answer, choose "Prefer not to answer" where applicable, or go back and change your selections before submitting the survey.
How will my information be used?
Data collected from the 2022 Wellbeing Survey may be used for the following additional purposes, as permitted or required by law:
  • To improve quality of care and teamwork across the enterprise
  • To provide norms against which sub-groups can be compared
  • To suggest recommendations to inform programming to improve well-being for faculty
  • To evaluate relationships between wellness variables as well as demographic and professional characteristics to enhance and customize efforts to improve wellness
  • To apply for, and/or to justify, funding for programs that will help promote well-being for faculty
  • To assess change over time in wellness variables, to inform the evaluation of programs and strategies intended to improve well-being
  • To drive continuous improvement of Graduate Medical Education’s resident and fellow wellness initiatives, in alignment with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Institutional Requirements
