The Faculty Steering Committee (FSC) invites you to the Fall Faculty Meeting for 2017. Faculty are encouraged to attend the meeting in person; for those that cannot, it will be available via live web stream and teleconference. Please Submit Questions prior to the meeting. FSC will be hosting a reception immediately following the Fall Faculty Meeting. Faculty who have received an award or who were promoted will be recognized.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Grand Rounds will feature a lecture by Dr. Will Ross. A longtime advocate of public health and health care for the medically under-served, Dr. Ross has produced educational videos, public service announcements and monographs on eliminating health care disparities.

This lecture will provide practical information on how to create an effective research poster. Topics discussed will include how to select appropriate text and images and how to optimize a poster's layout to reveal a study's outcomes. Dinner will be served from 5:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., and the presentation will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m.

Please join us for the 2017 Steven C. Beering Award Lecture. The winner is Michael J. Welsh, M.D., Director, Pappajohn Biomedical Institute, Professor of Internal Medicine - Pulmonary, Critical Care and Occupational Medicine, Professor of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, and Professor of Neurosurgery at Carver College of Medicine. Seven of the past Beering Award recipients have become Nobel laureates, either before or after receipt of this award.

Culture & Conversation is a monthly discussion series hosted by the Office of Diversity Affairs, where students, faculty and staff engage in conversations regarding current events and cultural relevant issues.Please join us for a highly engaging discussion on LGBTQ+ history, language, and the relevance to your position as medical professionals and students. The basic language and community is in constant transition as generational shifts inform gender identity and sexuality categories. We will discuss the importance of inclusive language and policy as well as real-life stories of doctor/patient interactions with LGTBQ+ individuals.
