The first day of class sets the tone for the rest of the semester.  It’s an opportunity to set learners’ expectations, establish a feeling of community, and give students a taste of course content. This online mini-workshop will focus on ideas and activities that instructors can use to get a course off to a great start, with time for questions and discussion.

SNAPPS is a learner-centered teaching approach to clinical education in which the preceptor takes on the role of a facilitator by promoting critical thinking, empowering the learner to have an active role in their education, and serving as a knowledge ‘presenter’ rather than a knowledge ‘source.’

This seminar comprehensively addresses both conceptual and practical aspects associated with the grant writing process. Emphasis is given to idea development, identification of the most appropriate granting agency, how to write for reviewers, and tips and strategies that are of proven value in presenting an applicant's case to reviewers. All participants will receive light breakfast, boxed lunch, and a copy of The Grant Application Writer's Workbook.

The IUSM Regatta BBQ is a family-friendly event offering an opportunity for IUSM faculty, staff, and learners to meet, greet, and kick off the school year. The Regatta consists of a half-mile canoe relay competition involving teams of up to eight students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Attendees are strongly encourage to RSVP.

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Grand Rounds will feature a lecture by Dr. Will Ross. A longtime advocate of public health and health care for the medically under-served, Dr. Ross has produced educational videos, public service announcements and monographs on eliminating health care disparities.

The Interprofessional Practice and Education Conference brings professionals from multiple disciplines to share and present efforts in interprofessional practice and/or education. Educators, clinicians and students are invited to submit abstracts for workshops, podium, panel, and poster presentations. All abstracts should relate to work currently being conducted or recently completed in Indiana.
