SNAPPS is a learner-centered teaching approach to clinical education. The preceptor takes on the role of a facilitator by promoting critical thinking, empowering the learner to have an active role in their education, and serving as a knowledge ‘presenter’ rather than a knowledge ‘source.’

The Indiana University School of Medicine believes that honoring outstanding teaching, research, and service is an important part of our culture. Nominations for faculty awards are accepted in the following categories:

  • Scholar-Educator Award: This award recognizes faculty who approach teaching and learning from a scholarly lens.
  • Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Awards: These two awards recognize the outstanding mentoring efforts of one clinician and one basic scientist each year.
  • Outstanding Community Engagement Award: This award recognizes exceptional community engagement by IUSM faculty in activities such as, but not limited to, volunteerism, community based learning or research, outreach, partnerships, and curricular engagement.
  • Inspirational Educator Award: This award recognizes faculty who inspire their learners and motivate them to work hard and achieve more than they thought possible on their own.

This seminar comprehensively addresses both conceptual and practical aspects that are associated with the grant writing process. Emphasis is given to idea development, identification of the most appropriate granting agency, how to write for reviewers, and tips and strategies that are of proven value in presenting an applicant's case to reviewers. All participants will receive light breakfast, boxed lunch, and a copy of The Grant Application Writer's Workbook.

The IUSM Regatta BBQ is a family-friendly event offering an opportunity for IUSM faculty, staff, and learners to meet, greet, and kick off the school year. The Regatta consists of a half-mile canoe relay competition involving teams of up to eight students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Attendees are strongly encourage to RSVP.

The Interprofessional Practice and Education Conference brings professionals from multiple disciplines to share and present efforts in interprofessional practice and/or education. Educators, clinicians and students are invited to submit abstracts for workshops, podium, panel, and poster presentations. All abstracts should relate to work currently being conducted or recently completed in Indiana.
