Vacation
Faculty must abide by the leave policy associated with their appointment type. Full time faculty receive 22 days of vacation every year.

Parental/Sick Leave
Faculty are eligible for up to 12 weeks leave, six weeks paid and six week unpaid if supported by the criteria defined by federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) including parental leave and caring for an ill family member. This benefit is administered by the individual departments. Additional benefits exist if a prolonged absence is medical indicated. See departmental administrators for details.
Clinical Leave
Clinical leave is undertaken to provide time to keep abreast of developments in a clinical track faculty member's fields of teaching and/or clinical service. It is an investment by the department and the School of Medicine in the expectation that the leave will significantly enhance the clinical track faculty member's capacity to contribute to the objectives of the department and the school. For this reason, departmental leave applications are approved only if there is adequate reason to believe that they will achieve this purpose. Full policy available heredoc.
Full-time Lecturers Department Leave
The departmental lecturers leave program is undertaken to provide time to keep abreast of developments in a lecturer's fields of teaching and service.
It is an investment by the department and the School of Medicine in the expectation that the leave will significantly enhance the lecturer's capacity to contribute to the objectives of the department and the school. Sabbatical Leave
Sabbatical Leave must be planned well in advance in compliance with the IUSM Sabbatical Leave Policydoc as well as the IUPUI Sabbatical Guidelinesdoc. Department Chair or Regional Center Director should be notified by September prior with the tentative list of those planning to apply for sabbatical leave submitted to the Dean's Office by mid October. The official application and complete curriculum vitae must be received by the Dean's Office by November 1st of the year prior to the planned sabbatical. The Board of Trustees ordinarily will not approve sabbatical leave applications until April. Upon completion of a sabbatical, faculty have three months to submit a Sabbatical Reportdoc to the Dean of Faculties.
Partial Leave of Absence
Non-tenure track faculty may also exercise a part time leave of absence through their department through the leave policy for full time clinical faculty or the leave policy for full time lecturer faculty. Tenure track faculty are additionally eligible to apply for Sabbatical Leavedoc.
