Women have achieved significant accomplishments in medicine and science, yet comprise a relatively small proportion of faculty, especially at the highest ranks and positions of leadership. As a result, women faculty tend to have smaller professional networks than male colleagues and have fewer role models of success.

As a psychology professor at the University of Nebraska, Dan Bernstein faced challenges in helping students reach a deeper understanding. As part of the Carnegie Scholars program, he designed online preparation in support of active learning in face-to-face time. His talk will describe how students collaborated in and out of class as they advanced their level of understanding.

The 2014 Steven C. Beering Award will be presented to William G. Kaelin, Jr., M.D., Professor of Medicine at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School on March 25, 2015.
