Applications are now being accepted for the position of assistant dean of career mentoring and professional development in the IU School of Medicine Office of Medical Student Education. The assistant dean will focus on assisting students with choosing a career path that aligns with their skills and interests, and ultimately matching into a residency position to meet their goals. Please join us for a discussion of LGBTQ+ history, language, and the relevance to your position as medical professionals and students. The basic language and community is in constant transition as generational shifts inform gender identity and sexuality categories. We will discuss the importance of inclusive language and policy as well as real-life stories of doctor/patient interactions with LGTBQ+ individuals.

Dr. Gopen’s workshop is designed to teach participants a new, strategic approach to creating, analyzing, and editing scientific writing. His article, The Science of Scientific Writing, was selected by American Scientist as one of 36 “classic articles” in its 100 years of publications. A senior faculty member at IUSM, with over one hundred publications to his credit, attended Dr. Gopen’s workshop, and summed up his experience by stating, “This was the best investment I ever made–the most cost effective time I have ever spent.”
