The Department of Medicine is proud to welcome Maria E. Maldonado, M.D., F.A.C.P., Director of Education for Cross Cultural and Patient Centered Communication for the Department of Medicine at the Ichan School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She will be discussing the evolution of the terms patient-centeredness and cultural competence, where they overlap and diverge. She will also introduce equitable patient-centered communication and discuss its key elements. Her research and clinical interests are in cultural competency and health care disparities, implicit bias, medical education, the delivery of patient centered care, and caring passionately for the under-served patient population.
