Recorded: Assessing Learning, Online Approaches and Tools

Monday, January 1 1900 @ 07:00 PM to 07:00 PM

Academy of Teaching Scholars Competency: Assessment Methods

This session will introduce basic concepts related to assessment in general, and online approaches and tools specifically. Participants will examine different types of student work and activities across disciplines, as well as examples of assessments that measure learning that ranges from remembering to applying to creating. Questions and discussion will be encouraged.

This session will provide an overview of how Echo360 works, the Classroom Lecture Recording service, and a demonstration of the Echo360 student portal. Participants will also be shown the Echo360 Personal Capture software that allows them to create recordings from their laptops, office workstations, or at home and post them to the Web for their students to view.

Lecture capture can be a powerful learning tool when used to review in-class lectures or catch up on a missed class. The Personal Capture software is one way to make short videos of key or difficult concepts to supplement readings, or to provide first exposure to course content in a flipped classroom model.

This webinar is part of the Center for Teaching and Learning’s online mini-workshop series focused on foundational teaching skills, Teaching@IUPUI. Designed for new faculty, adjunct faculty, graduate students, and those looking for a refresher on good teaching practices, the workshops are short, with a brief presentation interspersed with opportunities for interaction and questions. Grounded in current research, the workshops address various teaching topics and provide participants with strategies and resources to make instruction more effective, efficient, and enjoyable. Sessions are scheduled with the time of semester in mind, to keep topics relevant for faculty needs at that time.

NOTE: The Teaching@IUPUI workshop series is held online using Adobe Connect. You will need working speakers to hear the presenter. It is strongly recommended that you have a high-speed Internet connection to participate in this session. Registered participants will receive an email with instructions for viewing and a link to the Adobe Connect meeting room a day or two before the event.

Register for these workshops online at or by calling the Center for Teaching and Learning at 274-1300.
